Welcome to the winter season! The time of year with the best holidays, beautiful lights, and snow if you’re lucky! It’s also the time of year when the cold weather air tends to be far drier than we’re used to. But don’t worry—you can always trust us to bring you tips to provide the best care for your eyes and mouth!
TIP #1: HYGIENE
Or EYEgiene if you’re punny, wink wink. It’s hugely important to keep your eyes clean and free of debris. Wash your face thoroughly in the morning when you wake up and at night before bed. You’ll also want to clean things that regularly come in contact with your eyes—such as makeup brushes, contacts, etc. Do your best to avoid using your fingers and hands to wipe your eyes as this could be bringing dirt, bacteria, and such into your eyes.
TIP #2: SUNGLASSES
It might feel like a summer thing, but sunglasses are just as important to wear in the winter as they are in the summer. We recommend wearing sunglasses in direct sunlight to protect your eyes from UV exposure. Wearing sunglasses also protects your eyes from the reflection of snowy surfaces. TIP #3: HYDRATE
A no-brainer. As usual, hydration is key in helping you maintain an appropriate amount of moisture as well as that beautiful twinkle in your eyes.
TIP #4: HUMIDIFY YOUR SPACE
Much like the outdoors, the indoor air can also become dry. Bringing in a humidifier to humidify your space will certainly help your eyes adjust and maintain moisture. On that note, it’s smart to also keep your distance from things like personal heaters, bonfires, fireplaces, etc. which can be drying for your eyes.
TIP #5: BLINK
Remember to blink! If you’re typically working at the computer or you’re looking at your phone, you tend to blink much less. Blinking helps with lubrication in the form of tears, so blink often to keep those eyes hydrated!
TIP #5: ARTIFICIAL TEARS

DISH #1: CHARCUTERIE BOARD
The finer things in life for both you and your teeth include the oh-so-delicious charcuterie board, where the cheese is the star of the show. Since dairy is rich in calcium, it’s the perfect pre-thanksgiving dinner snack as calcium maintains strong bones and teeth.
DISH #2: VEGGIES
Bonus points if you have enough self-control to skip the starchy veggies and head straight for the colorful veggies and greens. Vegetables typically have more fiber and can aid in saliva production helping you break down foods for your digestive system.
DISH #3: SWEET POTATOES
This rule of thumb goes for yams as well since the two are sort of similar. Since both are rich in Vitamins A and C, it helps to preserve your gums. But here’s the catch—if they are candied, which let’s be real, most are on Thanksgiving day, then we recommend eating them in moderation. As we all know by now, sugar is not friendly to your teeth.
DISH #4: TURKEY
Of course, you can have your turkey! We wouldn’t dare attempt to deprive you. It’s generally a healthy dish packed with protein —just make sure that once you’ve gobbled it down you floss your teeth.
DISH #5: PUMPKIN PIE
Awww yeah! It’s Thanksgiving… we won’t tell you not to eat pie, but we will tell you the pie that’s better for you to sink your teeth into. Our pick is pumpkin pie because much like sweet potatoes it is rich in Vitamin A which keeps your gums healthy and builds the hard outer shell of your enamel.

With Halloween days away and the festive holiday season approaching, we thought it important to share our go-to dental tricks for maintaining healthy teeth. We know the month of October is practically candy month and the road to the new year from this point is filled with tempting treats and delectable dishes. As much as we love to indulge, it’s important to respect your body, your diet, and your teeth.
TRICK #1: TREATS AREN’T CREATED EQUAL
There are so many types of candy and some happen to be much easier on your teeth than others. We recommend steering away from hard candy and candies that are sticky. Why? Hard candy and sticky candy can cause damage to your teeth lingering in your mouth for extended periods of time which can contribute to tooth decay—not to mention there’s the potential of cracking or even chipping your teeth when biting down to break up the hard candy. Additionally, the sugar found in these candies is more acidic which is hard on your enamel.
Chocolates or chocolates with nuts tend to be an easier candy to break down. The darker the better. Chocolate candy that has nuts like almonds or peanuts have the tendency of breaking up the stickiness of chocolate helping to remove it from your teeth.
TRICK #2: TIMING IS OF THE ESSENCE
If you’re planning on indulging, be sure to plan that sweet treat just after meal-time. This will help to cancel out bacteria-produced acids and will help to rinse away food. Snacking on candy throughout the day will only maintain the presence of bad bacteria and acidity in your mouth resulting in further decay. That said, if you’re easily tempted, keep your stash out of sight and off your mind until after mealtime.
TRICK #3: HYDRATE
Water helps us break down foods and flush out toxins from our body. The same goes with candy. The good ‘ol 8 glasses of water a day rule of thumb will help to rinse the bad bacteria from our mouths and help us stay hydrated.
TRICK #4: KEEP IT CLEAN
Brushing twice a day AND flossing is extra important when you’re upping your sugar intake. Protect your enamel while brushing away acids and bad bacteria, by doing this you can also help to prevent your teeth from staining.
